Winchester, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2011 campaign at the Shenandoah Quint on Thursday afternoon. The Saints men’s squad finished third of three teams while placing fourth of four teams on the women’s side in the 5K event.
Freshman Joey Yingling had an impressive showing for the Saints in his opening meet, finishing ninth overall with a time of 18:17.80. Fellow rookie Tam Ngyuen placed 13th with a time of 19:29.80 while junior Mark Flores wasn’t far behind in 16th place at 20:02.50.
Also running for the Saints, newcomer Alexi McHugh came in 20th at 20:49.90, junior Udit Bhatnagar was 25th with 22:15.60 and sophomore Kevin Farmer placed 29th at 23:15.60.
On the women’s side, sophomore Megan McMinn was the Saints’ top finisher with a time of 24:26.10 to place 10th. Freshman Jessica Butler was 18th at 28:43.40, sophomore Summer Penrose was 21st at 29:12.80, freshman Alondra Hall placed 24th at 32:11.50 and senior Rachael Raske was 27th at 38:26.30.
Both Marymount squads return to action on September 17 at the York (Pa.) Invitational.
