Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s basketball team fell to visiting Elms 74-67 in non-conference action on Monday night. The Saints drop to 3-7 on the season with the loss.
Reed Scott led the Saints with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Jesse Konadu added a team-best 16 points while Antonio Rouse had 13 and John Magnani chipped in 11.
A back-and-forth beginning to the first half saw six ties and lead changes before the Blazers (5-4) pulled away to lead by as many as 21 late. An 8-0 run by MU during the final 1:16 of the half, capped by a buzzer-beating half court three-pointer from Rouse, cut the deficit to 41-28 going into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Saints held Elms scoreless for the first six minutes of the second frame and without a field goal until the 12:50 mark. Marymount would pull even at 41-41 on a Scott layup at the 14:27 mark.
Although Elms pushed its lead back to double-figures, the Saints fought and made it a five-point game down 62-57 with 3:38 left in regulation. The Blazers held tight, holding off the late MU rally and closing out the game on the free throw line.
Daniel Gonzales led the Blazers with a game-high 29 points. Andre French added 13 while Jamal Hulum had 13.
