Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s swimming teams battled visiting York (Pa.), splitting decisions with the men’s and women’s squads on Saturday. The Saints women topped the Spartans 165-97 while the men fell 158-90 in Capital Athletic Conference action.
On the women’s side, the Saints won 12 events on the day including seven swimmers with multiple victories. Reigning CAC Swimmer of the Year Anna Macedonia was unbeatable and won all three of her individual events and lone relay. She opened the day with a victory in the 400 medley relay before claiming the top spot in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 IM.
Teaming with Macedonia, Katie Moran, Lea Mazzoccoli and Emily Wagner all won the 400 medley relay. Moran also teamed with Casey Thomas, Mazzoccoli and Meghan Morch to win the 400 freestyle relay while Moran also claimed victory in the 50 freestyle and Thomas in the 100 freestyle.
Other wins for the Saints included Wunderly sweeping both the 100 and 200 butterfly, Wagner topping the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and Kim Rizzo winning the 100 backstroke and 500 freestyle to go with a second place finish in the 200 IM.
For the men, the Saints swept the relay events as Ryan Kilmon, Greg Shumaker, Tom Baroz and Joseph Gardner won the 400 medley relay while Baroz teamed with Will Baroz, Walker Flynn and Rett Neiman to win the 400 freestyle relay.
Individually, Gardner won the 200 IM, finished second in the 200 breaststroke and third in the 200 freestyle. Neiman was second in the 1000 freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle, Kilmon place second in both the 100 and 200 backstrokes and Shumaker was second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 breaststroke. Tom Baroz was second in the 100 butterfly and Will Baroz was second in the 100 fly.
Marymount returns to action in two weeks at the Randolph-Macon Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
