Men’s Hoops Falls to CAC Rival UMW
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s basketball team fell to visiting rival Mary Washington 65-56 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night. The Saints drop to 4-10 overall and 0-3 in league play.
Brenden Cuyler led the Saints with 13 points while Antonio Rouse added 12 and Jesse Konadu had 11 off the bench. Aaron Walsh paced the Saints on the boards with eight rebounds while Reed Scott had six.
In an extremely even game, both teams converted 20 field goals to go with six three-pointers each. Marymount outshot the Eagles from the floor, three-point territory and from the free throw line while the Saints also outrebounded their guests 34-31 on the day.
Mary Washington took the edge by forcing 24 Saints turnovers for 24 points and converting on 19-of-30 free throws to the Saints 10-of-14 shooting at the charity stripe. In the second half alone, UMW shot 15-24 from the free throw line to the Saints 7-10 clip.
Sean Armstrong led Mary Washington with a game-high 18 points while Bradley Riester added 15.
Marymount returns to the hardwood on Saturday as it travels to face defending CAC tournament champion York (Pa.) in road action.
