Women’s Volleyball Tops St. Mary’s in Comeback Thriller
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s volleyball team overcame a two-set deficit to defeat visiting St. Mary’s (Md.) 3-2 (20-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-17, 15-11) in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night. The Saints improve to 18-11 overall and 5-2 in league play.
With the win, the Saints clinch either the third or fourth seed in the upcoming CAC playoffs and a guaranteed home match in the first round of the draw on Tuesday.
Marymount’s Emileigh Rettig led all players with 18 kills while Morgan McAlpin added 14, Erin Allison chipped in 13 and Emily Shultis tallied 10. Becca Schroeder was just off of double-digit kills with a career-high nine.
Three Saints posted double-doubles in the win as Rettig and Allison collected 17 and 16 digs, respectively, while Brianne Fitzpatrick paced the offense with 55 assists to go with 13 digs.
Cassidie Watson added a match-high 29 digs while Courtney Phung chipped in 11.
At the net, Shultis was credited with four blocks, two of them solo, while McAlpin and Schroeder both added a pair.
Mandy Goodspeed led the Seahawks (16-9, 2-5 CAC) with 16 kills while Autumn Fisher added 13.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday as it closes out the regular season with a tri-match.
