Bridgewater, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s soccer team defeated Ferrum 3-1 on Saturday to remain undefeated on the season. With the win, the Saints open the year 2-0 for the first time since 2007.
Sophomore Shannon Bisselink and junior Katie Hamelin each tallied goals for the Saints, both in the second half. Bisselink put MU on the board in the 55th minute courtesy of an assists from Hamelin before Hamelin put away what would turn out to be the game-winner in the 68th minute.
For the second game this season, Marymount found itself on the fortunate end of an own goal, this time coming at the 72:02 mark.
The Panthers would dash the Saints’ hopes for a shutout with a last minute goal, literally, with 12 seconds remaining on the clock.
In goal, freshman Victoria Wyand (2-0-0) stopped five shots on the day.
Marymount returns to action on Sunday against host Bridgewater at 4 p.m.
