Summer Winds

Tuesday, July 20, 2010
When summer comes, Marymount students scatter to the winds, to travel, volunteer, earn money, and relax before fall semester arrives. Here’s what some MU Saints are doing this summer:
Julia Pour ’12, Nursing, Hanover County, VA
“This summer I’ll be studying in Oxford, England, for six weeks with the Marymount Honors Program. During that time, I’m planning to travel to France and Ireland to see where my family is from. After Oxford, I’ll be spending a week in Israel, where my sister and her family live. When I return to the States, I’m going to spend the rest of the summer relaxing with my family and volunteering with my local rescue squad.”

Rainier Heredia ’13, Nursing, Laguna, Philippines
“I’m taking a summer class at Marymount. I also hope to get a summer job on campus as a Student Ambassador, to earn money. Then I’ll go visit my family in the Philippines, where I will celebrate my birthday. And I will definitely be hanging out with friends!”

Melanie L. Cope ’11, Information Technology, Fresh Meadows, NY
“I will do an internship as a teacher’s assistant at Saint Agnes School in Arlington, VA. I already did my internship for academic credit at Saint Agnes, and they have offered me a job when I graduate, so this will be great practice. A week before school starts in the fall, my mother is giving me a cruise, but I don’t know where to; it’s a surprise!”

Tina Hoang ’11, Business Administration, Hanoi, Vietnam
“I am going home to Vietnam to do an internship for academic credit with Citibank. I’m thinking of going for an M.B.A. when I graduate.”

Tyler Pullens ’10, English major, Politics minor, Denver, CO
“Although I took part in the May Commencement ceremony, I’ll actually be graduating in August, because I still have to complete my required internship. So this summer, I will be interning with the National Criminal Justice Association in DC, researching federal policy, attending hearings in Congress, and writing for the organization’s newsletter. My sister (Keana Pullens ’12, Communication) and I will get a place to live in DC over the summer.”

Yolande Macon ’11, Fashion Merchandising, Virginia Beach, VA
“This summer I plan to work and travel. Both are much needed! I will be working at Budget Rent-A-Car in North Carolina to earn some money. For the fun part of my summer, I plan to travel to Atlanta, Miami, and St. Louis to visit friends and family.”

Nastacia House ’12, Economics in Society, Port St. Lucie, FL
“Last summer, I went home and could not find a job, so I was pretty bored. This summer, I have found a two-month internship in business development in Shanghai, China. I will be marketing a telecom firm that does video conferences and reaching out to other companies in China. It will be exciting!”
