Cross Rises above Caruthers Hall

Wednesday, September 08, 2010
Under bright blue skies and a brilliant sun on September 8, the Marymount community gathered at the corner of Old Dominion Drive and North 26th Street to witness the blessing and raising of a six-foot cross to the top of Caruthers Hall, the University's new academic building. The stainless-steel, trefoil cross was donated by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Marymount’s founding order.

Father David Sharland, Y.A., director of Campus Ministry, blessed the cross before it was raised into place by a crane. The sun glinted off the cross as it swayed above the building, and the audience broke into spontaneous applause as it was fixed in place  marking a truly blessed day at Marymount University.
