York, Pa. – Marymount University senior forward Maame Amponsah was named the Capital Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. Amponsah posted a pair of double-doubles on the week to help the Saints secure the second-seed and a first round bye in the CAC Tournament.
A two-time Player of the Week honoree this season, Amponsah opened with a 10 point, 16 rebound performance in a 53-38 victory over Frostburg State. She added another 14 points and 12 boards in a 59-50 win over Stevenson to close out the regular season.
On the week, Amponsah averaged 12 points and 14 rebounds to go with 2.5 assists and 2.0 blocks a game. She shot 57.9 percent from the floor.
Leading the nation in rebounding with 15.8 boards per game, Amponsah has posted 17 double-doubles so far this season and grabbed at least 20 boards in five different games including a program record 22 in December.
Marymount hosts the winner of Tuesday’s opening round game between York (Pa.) and St. Mary’s (Md.) in the CAC semifinals on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Verizon Sports Arena.
