Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s basketball team collected its first Capital Athletic Conference win of the season with a 64-57 victory over visiting Salisbury on Tuesday night. The Saints snap a five-game losing-streak, push their record to 3-5 on the year and move to 1-2 in league play.
Antonio Rouse led the Saints with a game-high 22 points while Jesse Konadu added 13 and Mac Kennedy had 11. John Magnani led all players with six rebounds and a game-high three blocks.
A tightly contested first half saw the Sea Gulls (5-3, 0-2 CAC) take a 29-26 lead into halftime despite the Saints outshooting them 45.5 percent to 38.5% in the opening frame. The Saints would explode in the second half, hitting a sizzling 61.1% from the floor including a stellar 83.3% from three-point range, to post a late double-figure lead and hold on down the stretch for the win.
Despite MU’s 54.5% clip from downtown in the game, the Saints outscored Salisbury 26-14 in the paint. Forwards Magnani, Andrew Somuah and Rich Bess combined for 14 points down low while Rouse slashed his way through the Sea Gulls defense at will.
Mike Atkins and Devin Posey led Salisbury with 11 points each.
