Marymount University to Offer Online Graduate Program in Criminal Justice Administration and Policy

Wednesday, December 15, 2010
Starting in summer 2011, Marymount University will offer an online graduate program in Criminal Justice Administration and Policy that will prepare criminal justice professionals working in the field for leadership roles. The program emphasizes education in management, leadership, and policy. Curriculum areas include politics and policy analysis, criminal justice administration, terrorism and counterterrorism, issues in corrections, and executive leadership and organizational change.

Designed for those with at least two years of criminal justice work experience, Marymount’s program is ideal for professionals seeking a management position, managers wishing to advance, and individuals planning to teach criminal justice.

Dr. Cynthia Starita, coordinator of the program, elaborates: “There is an increased demand for leaders in criminal justice, due in part to baby boomer retirements and the heightened need for security in a post 9/11 world. The Marymount program will provide those currently working in law enforcement with the tools for advancement – cutting edge technical, analytical, and communication skills and the latest discipline-specific knowledge.”

The cohort-based program is offered in an online format, convenient for working law enforcement officials. To start the program, there is a single, week-long summer residency at Marymount. The University is located in Arlington, Virginia, just minutes from the exceptional resources of Washington, DC. Dr. Starita adds, “This on-campus component will provide networking opportunities with faculty and fellow students that will provide the added benefit of future professional connections in the law enforcement, corrections, and intelligence communities.”

The Marymount program will launch in June 2011. The priority application deadline is February 1; applications will be accepted through April 1.
