Fredericksburg, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s soccer team suffered its first Capital Athletic Conference loss of the season, falling 2-1 to rival Mary Washington on Wednesday. The Saints drop to 2-5-3 overall and 0-1-2 in league play.
Surrendering an early goal in the 13th minute, the Saints responded with minutes to go in the opening frame with a goal at the 42:00 mark. Henri Rivera took a pass from Kjell Crooke, launching the long distance shot past the Eagles keeper for the equalizer.
Mary Washington’s defense clamped down in the second half, holding MU to just one shot in the frame compared to five in the first. The Eagles put home the game-winner just over seven minutes in the second stanza before holding the Saints at bay the rest of the way.
Mike Madigan collected a pair of saves between the pipes for the Saints.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday as they travel to face non-conference foe Hampden-Sydney.
