Lancaster, Pa. – Marymount University’s women’s swimming team placed eighth out of 10 teams at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational over the weekend. Junior Anna Macedonia set a pair of program records as the Saints collected 199 team points.
Macedonia posted top times in the two day event in the 100 backstroke and the 200 backstroke. She broke her own record in the 100 back on Saturday with a time of 58.23, a quarter of a second faster than the previous mark. Macedonia followed that by breaking her own 200 back record on Sunday with a time of 2:07.52, more than two seconds under her previous best.
The 100 back time won the event, set a meet record at the F&M Invitational, is the 14th best time in Division III this year and the top Capital Athletic Conference mark. Macedonia’s 200 back time placed her third at F&M and is the 13th best D-III and top CAC time.
Setting another CAC top-time this season, Macedonia added a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle with 24.67. Her time was just over a half a second off her own program record.
Other scoring heats for the Saints on Saturday included Macedonia, Jackie Finn, Meghan Morch and Katie Moran placing seventh in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:43.94, Kimberly Rizzo finished 12th in the 200 IM at 2:19.24, Moran was 16th in the 50 free with 26.13 and Macedonia, Emily Wagner, Finn and Moran placed eighth in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 4:15.26.
Saturday’s scoring continued as Macedonia, Wagner, Finn and Morch placed eighth in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:57.88, Rizzo and Katie Scott finished 10th and 16th, respectively, in the 400 IM with times of 4:54.71 and 5:03.84, Wagner was 14th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:13.20 and the team of Scott, Kelly Labriola, Catherine Martocci and Moran placed seventh in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 8:39.41.
Sunday’s action kicked off with Macedonia’s performance in the 200 back where Rizzo also scored by placing 15th with a time of 2:20.42. Other scoring included Moran placing 15th in the 100 freestyle at 57.27, Wagner finishing 15th in the 200 breaststroke with 2:39.36, the team of Moran, Rizzo, Morch and Macedonia placing 6th in the 400 freestyle relay and Scott and Labriola finishing 12th and 16th, respectively, in the 1650 freestyle with times of 19:25.02 and 19:39.83.
Marymount returns to action after the New Year by hosting CAC foes Mary Washington and Salisbury January 15.
