Dover, Del. – Marymount University’s women’s lacrosse team picked up its first Capital Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 21-16 road win over Wesley on Wednesday afternoon. The Saints move to 2-5 overall and even their CAC record to 1-1 in league play.

Tancy Weatherford and Stephanie Flood led the Saints with five goals each while Taylor Johnson added four and Megan McGuirk had two. Molly Maher, Catherine Powell, Lindsay Quinn, Chelsea Ritter and Jacki Belker each scored for MU as well.

McGuirk and Weatherford both added three assists in the win for Marymount.

Four Saints collected at least four ground balls, led by Cecilia Pasquale with seven. Jessica Kirshner added five while Jarrett Miller and Kiki Niebuhr both chimed in with four.

Marymount took an early 3-0 lead over the first five minutes of action capped by Ritter’s goal. The Saints would lead by as many as four at 7-3 before Wesley rallied to tie things up at 10-10 going into halftime.

Coming out of the break, MU hit seven of the first eight goals in the frame to retake a commanding 17-11 lead with nearly 13 minutes to play. The Wolverines (4-5, 0-3 CAC) never made it more than a five-goal game the rest of the way en route to a Saints victory.

Alyssa Prudente led the Wolverines with six goals while Nina Cornog had four and Jen Jacobs added three.

Marymount returns to action on Saturday as it hosts CAC foe St. Mary’s (Md.) at 1 p.m. at Long Bridge Park.
