Women’s Basketball Announces 2013-14 Schedule
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s basketball team has released its 2013-14 schedule, as announced by head coach Ashlee Courter on Friday. The Saints look to repeat their 2012-13 Capital Athletic Conference Championship run and make a return trip to the NCAA Tournament, their 18th in program history.
Three games against a pair of teams that made the 2013 NCAA Tournament highlight the 2013-14 slate. The Saints battle CAC newcomer and Elite Eight squad Christopher Newport twice during the regular season and host Sweet 16 participant Montclair State in December.
Marymount opens up the campaign by hosting the 2013 Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament on November 15-16. The Saint battle Haverford in the opener on Friday before taking on either Lynchburg or TCNJ in the final round on Saturday.
Following the Tip-Off Tournament, the Saints make their rounds across the Commonwealth with a trio of road games in Virginia. Marymount battles Randolph-Macon, CAC newcomer Southern Virginia and Virginia Wesleyan to close out November and open December before beginning league play.
The Saints host both Wesley and rival Mary Washington to open CAC play the opening week of December while also welcoming Montclair State and Shenandoah to the Verizon Sports Arena as part of a four-game homestand. Marymount wraps up the calendar year with a road trek to Rutgers-Newark on December 30.
Opening up the New Year, the Saints alternate home and away games while hosting two back-to-back contests only once before the conference tournament. Key league dates include hosting York (Pa.) on January 8 and CAC newcomer Penn State Harrisburg on January 15. Marymount travels to face Christopher Newport on January 18 and hosts St. Mary’s (Md.) on January 25.
In February, the Saints travel to Mary Washington and York (Pa.) while hosting CNU in the regular season finale in a string of games that could help determine the hierarchy in the league standings.
Marymount returns six players from last season including two-time All-American and repeat CAC Player of the Year Katelyn Fischer. The Saints went 24-5 overall and 10-1 in league play in 2012-13, their 15th-straight winning season and 29th overall in 31 years on the hardwood.
