Men’s Lacrosse Edged by Kean
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s lacrosse team fell 5-4 to visiting Kean in a back-and-forth game on Thursday night.
Freshman Connor Kellogg led the Saints (0-2) with two goals while seniors Jeff Cook and Chris Wascak added one apiece.
Defensively, junior Ross Fernandez collected six saves while senior defenseman Robby Woycik earned a pair of caused turnovers. Cook led the way with five ground balls while Kellogg chipped in four and Woycik and Fernandez collected three each.
Marymount found itself behind early, allowing a pair of Cougars (1-0) goals to open the first quarter. The Saints would go scoreless in the frame, but Cook put MU on the board to kick off the second stanza before Kean pushed its lead to 3-1 going into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Saints rallied and scored three unanswered goals in the third period to take a 4-3 lead. Kellogg hit the back of the net twice in less than a minute before Wascak added another score with just over seven minutes remaining in the quarter.
A strong defensive stand in the fourth wasn’t enough for MU as the Cougars knotted the game at 4-4 at the seven minute mark before scoring what would be the game-winner almost exactly a minute later.
Nick Angrisani led Kean with two goals while Richard Cheifitz, Todd Petrone and Ton Clifford all scored as well. Goalkeeper Lane Zierten collected 10 saves for the Cougars.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday morning as it hosts Ursinus in non-conference play at Georgetown University at 10 a.m.
