St. Mary’s City, Md. – Marymount University’s volleyball team dropped its final Capital Athletic Conference match of the season 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-22, 25-23) on the road at St. Mary’s (Md.) on Wednesday night. With the loss the Saints fall to 11-16 overall, 2-6 in league play, and are eliminated from the CAC Tournament.
Erin Allison led the Saints with 12 kills while Johanna Hummel added 11. Jenn Forbes chipped in seven kills and Emily Shultis had six. Melissa Warren paced the MU offense with 40 assists.
Defensively, Michelle McCormick tallied a match-high 19 digs while Christine Gallart had four blocks including a pair of solo rejections.
With St. Mary’s taking the opening set, Marymount battled back to claim the second and force a 1-1 tie. The Seahawks then put together the best hitting percentage set of the night in the third to get back into the driver’s seat.
Not backing down, the Saints and SMC fought to the final whistle in the fourth set. Marymount led late in the frame before the Seahawks tied things up at 23-23 and eventually closed out the match.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday as it closes the 2011 with a tri-match on the road against Eastern Mennonite and Southern Virginia.
