Hugo Dubon of Washington, DC, a Marymount University senior majoring in Nursing, has received a $5,000 Pediatric Nursing Scholarship from the Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC). The scholarship includes entry into the CNMC's nursing internship program and full employment upon graduation.
The nation, including the Washington, DC, region, continues to face a nursing shortage. CNMC launched the scholarship program to ensure that there will always be a strong cadre of professional nurses at the Medical Center.
Dubon is excited to be beginning his nursing career at CNMC and says, “I hope to be there for years to come!” Especially interested in pediatric critical care nursing, Dubon found his inspiration close to home. “Both my grandmother and godmother are nurses,” he explains. “I also have a fascination for medicine and a caretaker nature.”
Looking ahead, Dubon also plans to continue his education and is considering becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner or a nurse anesthetist. The practical experience he gains at CNMC will help him clarify his career path.
