Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s lacrosse team returned to the win column with a 12-8 decision over visiting DeSales on Saturday night. The win gives the Saints much-needed momentum as they head into their Capital Athletic Conference schedule.
Chris Wascak led the Saints (2-6) with four goals while Drew Phillips added three to go with a pair of assists. Austin Griffie chipped in two goals while Connor Kellogg, Jack Burke and David Huson all scored as well.
Defensively, Ross Fernandez hauled in 11 saves in goal and picked up his second win of the season. Jake Farrow led the Saints with six caused turnovers while Robby Woycik added four and pulled in six ground balls.
Marymount opened the game with a 3-0 first period, highlighted by a pair of Griffie goals. The Bulldogs (0-4) responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Saints 4-2 to go into halftime with MU up 5-4.
DeSales would tie things up twice in the third before Wascak’s fourth goal put the Saints up 7-6 with 1:39 to play and Huson closed out the frame by scoring with 11 ticks remaining on the clock. Marymount added four goals in the fourth to comfortably put the game away.
Tony Fabrizio led the Bulldogs with three goals.
Marymount returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts St. Mary’s (Md.) in CAC play.
