Buena Vista, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s soccer team opened a four-game road swing with a 2-1 victory over Southern Virginia on Friday afternoon. The win evens the Saints record to 4-4-0 on the year and is the second-straight season MU has defeated the Knights by one goal.
Jumping on the board first, the Saints took an early 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Amy Lawton took a pass from Brianna Notarangelo 30 yards out and sent her shot home from the left side.
The Knights would respond in the 72nd minute, evening the score on a similar play from the right side of the field.
Not wasting any time, Marymount fired back just six minutes later to regain the lead. Shannon Bisselink would notch the game-winner at the 78:02 mark, heading a deflection of her own shot past the Southern Virginia keeper.
In goal, Victoria Wyand (3-4-0) stopped six shots for her third win of the season.
Marymount returns to action on Wednesday at Salisbury in Capital Athletic Conference play.
