Women’s Volleyball Finishes as Runner-Up at ECAC Southwest Regional Championships
Bethany, W.Va. – Marymount University’s women’s volleyball team finished as the runners-up at the ECAC Southwest Region Championships, hosted by Bethany College on Saturday. The Saints swept Grove City 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-16) in the semifinals before falling 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-14) to Bethany in the finals.
With the results, the Saints finish the season 20-15 overall to reach the 20-win mark for the ninth time in program history. Marymount also won at least 20 matches from 1996-99 as well as 2004-06 and again in 2012.
Against Grove City, four Saints notched double-figure kills led by Erin Allison with a match-high 13. Morgan McAlpin, Emileigh Rettig and Emily Shultis each added 10. Rettig also posted a double-double with 11 digs.
Defensively, Courtney Phung led Marymount with 15 digs while Cassidie Watson added 13. McAlpin led all players with four blocks.
Against Bethany, McAlpin led the way with nine kills while Rettig added seven and both Allison and Shulits chipped in five.
Rettig contributed another 10 digs while Watson was credited with 14.
