Women’s Lacrosse Falls to St. Mary’s (Md.)

Saturday, March 24, 2012
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s lacrosse team dropped a 16-8 decision to visiting St. Mary’s (Md.) in Capital Athletic Conference action on a rain-soaked Saturday afternoon. The Saints fall to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Taylor Johnson led the Saints with four goals while Stephanie Flood added a pair. Megan McGuirk and Lindsay Quinn scored for MU as well.

Trading goals to open the game, Marymount kept pace with its guests through the first 20 minutes of the contest before five unanswered Seahawk (5-4, 1-0 CAC) goals put the Saints in a deficit they couldn’t come back from.

Defensively, the Saints caused an impressive 16 of SMC’s 24 turnovers. Molly Maher led the way with six caused turnovers while Cecilia Pasquale and Jarrett Miller both chipped in three.

Maher also led all players with eight ground balls while Pasquale collected seven.

In goal, Kiki Niebuhr and Lourdes Lanzas combined to haul in seven saves for the Blue and White.

Erin Shackelford paced the Seahawks with four goals while Daniella Hanacek added three.

Marymount returns to action as it travels to face CAC foe Hood on Saturday, March 31.
