Men’s Swimming Fifth After Opening Day at CAC Championships
St. Mary’s City, Md. – Marymount University’s men’s swimming team finished the first day of the Capital Athletic Conference in fifth place after five events. The Saints posted a Day 1 score of 79.5 and lead both Hood and Frostburg State.
Opening with a fifth place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay, the team of Michael Yelmgren, Ryan Kilmon, Thomas Baroz and Brian Tinsman posted a time of 1:30.39. The group cut three seconds off their preliminary time.
Baroz and Everett Neiman added points in the 500 free, finishing 10th and 16th, respectively. Greg Shumaker and Willie Sakell followed suit in the 200 IM, finishing 14th and 16th. Tinsman and Yelmgren rounded out the first day of individual events with 10th and 13th place finishes in the 50 free.
Wrapping up the day, Yelmgren, Shumaker, Baroz and Tinsman placed fifth in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:54.67.
Day two begins on Saturday with the preliminary heats at 10 a.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.
