Marymount University Participates in International Education Week 2011

Wednesday, November 09, 2011
Marymount is participating in the joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to celebrate International Education Week, November 14-18. It is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. The week is also meant to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

Marymount will be celebrating this week with a series of events sponsored by International Student Services, the Center for Global Education, and Campus Ministry. Student organizations such as the International Club, the Latino Student Association, and the African-Caribbean Student Association are contributing to the week-long series of events.

Throughout this week, a special focus will be fundraising for the International Student Emergency Fund. The Fund, under the direction of the International Student Services Office, seeks private donations to help international students afford necessary emergency expenses, such as eye exams, ER visits, or annual tests. Money from the fund may also be used to help purchase much-needed supplies, such as snow boots or winter coats.

Your donation is very important and can make a big difference! This year, Marymount alum and Zimbabwe native Shingai Mavengere '02 will generously match 2-to-1 every contribution. Students, staff, and faculty can make a gift to the International Student Emergency Fund at any of the events or can do so securely online.
