Men’s Basketball Downed by Salisbury
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s basketball team fell to visiting Salisbury 69-48 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night.
Freshman Reed Scott led the Saints (4-16, 2-9 CAC) with 14 points while junior John Magnani added eight and senior Stephen Simoneau had seven. Scott and junior Andrew Somuah paced the boards with six rebounds each while Magnani recorded three blocks and Somuah dished out three assists.
The Sea Gulls (8-12, 3-8 CAC) took advantage of 16 MU turnovers and turned them into 23 points. Salisbury also shot a hot 53.3 percent from three point territory on 8-of-15 shooting.
Marymount took an early lead before the Gulls battled back and led the majority of the first half. Salisbury would take a 33-28 advantage going into halftime on a three-pointer by David Pearman with 30 ticks remaining in the frame.
Another three from Pearman put SU up eight at the 15:42 mark in the second half before the Saints rallied for a 10-1 run to retake their first lead since the opening two minutes of the game. Salisbury would then respond with an 18-2 run over the next eight minutes to put the game away.
Chris McGrew led the Sea Gulls with 21 points while Pearman added 17 and Mike Atkins chipped in 13.
Marymount returns to the hardwood on Saturday at St. Mary’s (Md.).
