Dr. Sunitha Krishnan is cofounder of Prajwala
, an organization in Hyderabad, India, that rescues women and children who have been the victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. She will discuss her experiences and the need to raise awareness of the issue and provide mental health-based interventions for survivors.
Working with the Indian government, corporations and non-profits, Dr. Krishnan has helped establish a range of protective and rehabilitative services for children who have suffered the abuses of human trafficking. For her work combating this modern form of slavery, she has received the Stree Shakthi Puraskar Award, the Perdita Huston Human Rights Award, and the World of Children Award.
