Alumni Weekend 2010: A Shining Success

More than 250 Marymount alumni and friends came back to campus to celebrate Alumni Weekend 2010 on October 1 and 2. The event – which combines Homecoming and Reunion – offered many fun activities and ways for alumni to reconnect.

The weekend began with a Welcome Reception in the Lee Center Atrium for the members of this year’s Reunion classes: 1952-59, class years ending in 0 and 5, and all Marymount High School classes. The guests enjoyed an “around the world” wine tasting and browsed through photo displays documenting their time at Marymount. Friday evening also included the Homecoming Happy Hour, hosted by the Lacrosse Alumni Network, at Bailey’s Pub & Grille in Ballston.

Saturday started off with the annual Marymount 5K run/walk, benefiting the University’s cross country teams. Alumni, students, friends, and neighbors participated (even President Bundschuh, who provided the “shotgun start”), and everyone had a blast! The race was followed by a series of alumni sporting events, as former Marymount basketball, soccer, and lacrosse teams reunited to relive their glory days on their home turf.

Gorgeous weather provided a perfect backdrop for Saturday afternoon’s events: Classes without Quizzes, hosted by Dr. Robert Bernstein from the Counseling Department; a tour of campus including the 26th Street site; a BBQ lunch with current students; and intimate gatherings to honor those celebrating their golden reunions – the high school and college classes of 1960.
The celebration wrapped up with its signature event – the Alumni Weekend Dinner Dance, held this year in the beautifully renovated Gerard Dining Hall. The guests got a sneak peek at what MU students have been enjoying since the start of this academic year: a beautiful environment and incredible food. The DJ for the event was alumnus Marcus Blanchard ’02, and it’s safe to say that everybody had a ball!

The Office of Alumni Relations would like to thank all those who helped make this year’s celebration such a great success. We look forward to seeing you next year, at Alumni Weekend 2011.
