Microsoft Office 2007 Compatibility Issues
Compatibility issue between Internet Explorer and MS Office 2007 documents:
ITS has recently been discovered that there is an incompatibility issue between Internet Explorer and MS Office 2007's new file format. (So far this holds true for about 98% of the computers tested and is not an MU-specific problem). The problem is that when you click on a file, it will open up as a .zip file. This occurs when accessing any website using IE (ex. Blackboard).
Unfortunately, the compatibility patch for MS Office 2007 does not resolve this problem. To open these files, either
- download and use the Mozilla Firefox browser. It is free at www.mozilla.com, or
- save the file to your desktop and change the extension to .doc, .xls and then open the file.
