It’s an online process:
Step 1: Apply for a personal identification number (PIN) through the U.S. Department of Education’s Web site at www.pin.ed.gov and allow three days to receive your number. You’ll need the PIN to submit your FAFSA online.
Step 2: Do your taxes. It’s helpful to have your income tax forms, as well as those for your student, completed before filling out the FAFSA; however, the FAFSA can be submitted prior to filing tax returns.
Step 3: Download and fill out the FAFSA Web Worksheet at www.fafsa.ed.gov. MU’s school code is 003724. Then, complete the FAFSA online (also at www.fafsa.ed.gov) after January 1.
Step 4: You will receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) via e-mail about two to three weeks after you file the FAFSA. Call 1-800-4FED-AID if you haven’t received your SAR within three weeks of filing.
Step 5: If your student is a Virginia resident planning to attend a private college or university in Virginia, he or she is entitled to a Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG). It’s awarded regardless of financial need. Apply by July 31. VTAG applications are available here.
Step 6: Apply to Marymount online. Financial aid awards are offered after a student’s application is complete and he or she has been accepted for enrollment into a degree program. At Marymount, your son or daughter may be eligible for financial assistance that is unique to the University, such as institutional or privately funded scholarships or campus employment. MU’s Office of Financial Aid will let you know if any additional documents are needed to explore eligibility.
Step 7: Wait for notification. Award letters that outline the types and amount of financial aid offered are generally mailed to entering students beginning around March 15.
NOTE: To continue receiving financial aid, you and your student must file a new FAFSA each year, preferably in January or February. At Marymount, satisfactory academic performance is required to remain eligible for financial aid.
