Study Abroad - Opening minds to a world of opportunity

Program Considerations

With enough planning, students of all majors should be able to study abroad. However, some majors require additional considerations. Please stop by the Center for Global Education (CGE) as early as possible in your Marymount career to further discuss a study abroad plan and talk with your academic advisor about your goals.

Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Graphic Design, Interior Design
Students in these majors need to consider both the best time to go abroad and how many classes they want to take within their major while abroad. There is a limited number of programs that offer specific classes in the major; therefore, students should consider going abroad as early as possible, when they can take many core elective classes.

Nursing
Due to regulations, students generally cannot have Nursing classes abroad transfer back as Nursing classes at Marymount. Nursing students most often go abroad during their sophomore year and take only elective classes (general core and biology and chemistry). Students also can consider going abroad during the summer and taking general elective/core classes.

Business
Business majors are well suited for study abroad, but students should consider their motivations for going abroad for study and/or an internship. How will studying abroad contribute to your overall business degree and/or future business goals? Students should also have taken basic business courses before studying abroad.

While almost all study abroad programs have some business courses, the Center for Global Education has identified from popular sites for Business majors:

Students are encouraged to consider taking business electives while abroad, such as topics specific to your host country/region and other global issues in business.
