Student Work & Research

Students who are completing the undergraduate certificate in Paralegal Studies will complete a pro bono requirement. As part of this requirement, Paralegal students must conduct at least 24 hours of pro bono services in addition to the required coursework.

Students perform paralegal tasks under the supervision of licensed attorneys at local nonprofit organizations. Students choose where they conduct their pro bono work, but the site must be approved by the program director.

Some of the nonprofit organizations served through this program include

  • The Florian Foundation
  • Legal Services of Northern Virginia
  • Just Neighbors
  • Catholic Charities

This service provides real-world experience for students who engage in such tasks as

  • Assisting attorneys with uncontested divorce cases
  • Conducting client intake interviews
  • Preparing wills, advance medical directives, and powers of attorney
