Paralegal Studies

If you are interested in a career in the legal profession, Marymount’s Bachelor of Arts in Paralegal Studies can help you define and structure that interest.

The Paralegal Studies program seeks to integrate practice and theory, and Marymount’s faculty are expert practitioners with relevant experience in the legal arena.

The internship is an integral part of the program. Marymount’s close proximity to the nation’s capital presents students with numerous internship options – from law firms to trade associations to corporate or government legal offices.

You can also earn an undergraduate certificate in Paralegal Studies. This certificate program is open to students currently enrolled in any undergraduate degree program at Marymount.

The B.A. in Paralegal Studies and the undergraduate Paralegal Studies certificate are approved by the American Bar Association (ABA), a Marymount distinction setting it apart from other universities in the DC area. Graduates of ABA-approved programs may not provide legal services to the public, except as permitted by law; however, they are extremely well equipped for their careers as paralegals.

With an undergraduate degree and a certificate in Paralegal Studies, graduates are able to distinguish themselves from other job candidates, an important advantage in the highly competitive DC legal market. The ABA Web site provides further information about the significance of ABA approval of a paralegal education.
