Marymount's M.A. in Literature, Language, and the Humanities is a flexible, student-centered, interdisciplinary program of study. It will immerse you in the unique cultural resources and opportunities of the Washington, DC, area while deepening your understanding of the human condition.
The 33-credit program prepares you for a variety of academic and alternative academic career paths. You will be intellectually enriched through stimulating study and ongoing dialogue with engaged adults from a variety of backgrounds about topics of enduring human interest.
Choose one of three tracks:
- Literature
Engage with and analyze texts from a variety of theoretical perspectives.
- Language and Composition
Focus on linguistic and rhetorical study, with a practical edge. If you choose this track, you may wish to consider completing Marymount's certificate in Teaching English at the Community College.
- Humanities
Engage in humanistic inquiry from a variety of disciplinary perspectives suited to your interests and professional needs, including history and politics, the history of art and architecture, philosophy, literature, and comparative religion. Elective courses from information technology, interior design, and business enhance your knowledge and skill set.
Program Completion
You can complete your program with either a thesis or an internship practicum.
