Health Care Management/Information Technology Dual Degree (M.S./M.S.)

Many students interested in graduate study in health care management know that information technology – such as electronic medical records, telemedicine, wireless technology, and robotics – is playing an increasing role in health care management. Similarly, students pursuing a degree in Information Technology recognize that in order to be successful in the new field of health information management, they must understand health care management. In response, Marymount offers a dual degree: the Master of Science in Health Care Management and Master of Science in Information Technology.

It is designed to meet the needs of those students desiring a management position in the U.S. health care industry, with its increased focus on information technology. This dual degree program will prepare students for middle- or senior-level management positions in hospitals or other health care organizations. Graduates will be able to

  • identify and solve complex and integrative health care management problems
  • apply information technology, including electronic records, in order to increase access to care and decrease health care costs, while simultaneously considering security and privacy issues that may arise
  • identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness that can be supported by information technology solutions such as data analysis and document management
  • communicate and work effectively with others, including analysts, programmers, and health care managers

This dual degree can be completed through a highly structured program of study at MU’s Ballston Center.

Admission Requirements: Individuals interested in this dual degree program are encouraged to enroll in it when first applying to the University. However, students can elect to enroll in the dual program after they have already begun their studies in either the M.S. in Health Care Management or M.S. in Information Technology. The Office of Graduate Admissions will assist students with application procedures.

Minimum Grade Requirements: For students in dual degree programs, the minimum grade requirement for each program remains in effect. A minimum grade of C is required to receive credits for a course in this dual degree program.
