Fashion Merchandising

Marymount is the only Washington, DC-area university offering a Fashion Merchandising program, and its graduates find employment in New York City and other urban fashion centers, as well as Washington, DC. Study abroad programs tailored especially for fashion merchandising provide a global perspective well suited to the needs of the contemporary fashion industry.

At Marymount, Fashion Merchandising students study buying, product development, visual merchandising, public relations and fashion events, writing and the media, and international trade in the fashion industry in preparation for careers in these fields. Many also choose minors in Fashion DesignCommunication, or Business Administration, in order to further customize their background for employment.

The University’s annual Portfolio in Motion fashion show is the highlight of each academic year. This event showcases student designs and brings a Designer of the Year – an industry luminary like Michael Kors or Carolina Herrera – to campus. Fashion Merchandising students produce the entire event, which is filmed for cable television and provides students with a unique learning opportunity.
