Commencement Awards

Each year, members of the graduating class are honored with several awards that are presented at the Recognition Day Awards Ceremony. The graduates and the Marymount community are invited to recognize these students through the nomination process. Some of the award winners will be voted on by the graduating class.

Senior Leadership Award

Who can submit nominations? All members of the University community.
Who is eligible to be nominated? Students of the undergraduate graduating class. Additional eligibility requirements are listed on the nomination form.
What does the award recognize? Award criteria has intentionally been left broad (“positive contributions to the Marymount or general community”) so that students may be recognized for leadership and service of all types – academic leadership, community or church leadership, co-curricular leadership, etc. 
How are the winners determined? Of the nominees, 10-12 students will be selected to receive this award. Winners will be selected by the Leadership Award Selection Committee.
 

Sister Majella Berg Service Medal

Who can submit nominations? All members of the University community.
Who is eligible to be nominated? Students of the undergraduate graduating class.
What does the award recognize? The award is given "to the graduating student who has made the most significant contribution in the area of community service in the Greater Washington metropolitan region." This is one of the highest awards given to a Marymount graduate and signifies their unwavering commitment to the community and its needs.
How are the winners determined? A committee of faculty and staff will convene to review and choose the recipient.
 

Bishop Ireton Gold Medal

Who can submit nominations? All undergraduate members of the graduating class, including those who graduated in December and will graduate in May and  August.
Who is eligible to be nominated? A list of eligible students is on the nomination form.
What does the award recognize? The award is given “to the Bachelor degree graduate who has had the greatest influence for good on his/her companions.” This is one of the highest awards given to a Marymount graduate and the only award given by students to one of their peers.
How are the winners determined? The graduating class will vote online for the winner.
 

Robert A. Draghi Outstanding Faculty Award

Who can submit nominations? All undergraduate members of the graduating class, including those who graduated in December and will graduate in May and August.
Who is eligible to be nominated? A list of eligible faculty members is on the nomination form.
What does the award recognize? This honor is awarded to a full-time faculty member with three or more years of consecutive service at Marymount who has contributed to strengthen the overall University community, supports the MU Mission and “Students Come First” philosophy, and demonstrates outstanding teaching excellence.
How are the winners determined? The graduating class will vote online for the winner.
